Leading software magazine Develop recently released its annual UK Studio Hotlist, together with a full directory of UK games software companies, totalling 515. Analysis of the data shows that the Silicon Spa cluster, which includes Leamington Spa, Warwick and Southam, is the third largest gaming cluster in the UK (in terms of the number of gaming companies) with 21 companies, after London (112) and Dundee (35). Local companies Codemasters, Blitz, Playground, Freestyle, Supersonic, Hardlight and Rare Ltd were included in the magazines top 100 Hotlist.

The data also shows that over half of the West Midlands (including South Staffordshire) gaming industry is clustered in and around Silicon Spa.
Elsewhere, the UK games industry trade association TIGA has published research indicating that employment in the development sector grew by four per cent in 2012, bringing a halt to three years of declines. According to their findings, the number of creative staff employed in studios grew from 8,888 to 9,224.
With a figure of approximately 900 for Silicon Spa and over 1000 for Warwickshire as a whole, the area currently accounts for about 10% of the total UK gaming employment.
